The Song Of Deborah (Judges 5: 2 - 31) celebrates the victory of Deborah and Barak over Sisera and is one of the oldest pieces of literature in the Old Testament. Her own contemporaries respected her as a "mother in Israel" (Judges 5: 7). Prophetess Deborah, a judge who judged Israel in the 13th or 12th century. She was one of those rare individuals who had a special charismatic gift of the Spirit of God (cf. Judges 6: 34; Judges 11: 29; Judges 14: 6) as such she was recognized as a prophetess (Judges 4: 4). She had her headquarters under "the palm tree of Deborah" between Ramah and Bethel (Judges 4: 5) where the people or leaders of the various tribes came to have their disputes arbitrated and settled.

A woman who was immovable during the heat of the battle and she encouraged "Barak". What an awesome woman and prophetess of courage. The magnitude, solicitude and aptitude of her prophetic word to "Barak" can be studied in Judges 4: 14, "Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee?"
